Asociación de las características del ensayo con la publicación simultánea y su impacto en citas y menciones: un estudio transversal / Association of trial characteristics with simultaneous publication and its impact on citations and mentions: a cross-sectional study

Introducción y objetivos: Los ensayos clínicos aleatorizados a menudo se presentan en conferencias médicas y se publican al mismo tiempo o después. Los predictores de publicación simultánea y sus consecuencias no están determinados. Nuestro objetivo es caracterizar la práctica de la publicación simultánea, identificar sus predictores y evaluar su impacto. Métodos: En este estudio transversal se incluyeron ensayos clínicos aleatorizados presentados en sesiones de ciencia de última hora de importantes conferencias cardiovasculares desde 2015 hasta 2021. Se analizó la asociación entre las características del ensayo y el momento de la publicación. Se investigó el impacto de la publicación simultánea frente a la no simultánea en el número de citas a 1 año y menciones a 1 mes, así como en el total de citas y menciones en el seguimiento más largo observado. Resultados: De los 478 ensayos incluidos en el análisis, el 48,7% se publicó simultáneamente. Las publicaciones simultáneas tenían mayor probabilidad de presentarse en la sala principal de la conferencia (OR=6,09; IC95%, 1,34-36,92; p=0,029) y se caracterizaban por un tiempo de revisión más corto (OR=0,95; IC95%, 0,91-0,96; p<0,001). Las publicaciones simultáneas se asociaron con un mayor número de citas a 1 año (R2=43,81; IC95%, 23,89-63,73; p<0,001), menciones a 1 mes (R2=132,32; IC95%, 85,42-179,22; p<0,001) y total de citas (R2=222,89; IC95%, 127,98-317,80; p<0,001) en el seguimiento. Conclusiones: Los ensayos clínicos aleatorizados presentados en la sala principal de la conferencia y con un tiempo de revisión más corto tienen mayor probabilidad de publicarse simultáneamente. Las publicaciones simultáneas se asocian con más citas y menciones que las publicaciones no simultáneas. (AU)

Introduction and objectives: Randomized trials are often presented at medical conferences and published simultaneously or later. Predictors of simultaneous publication and its consequences are undetermined. Our aim was to characterize the practice of simultaneous publication, identify its predictors, and evaluate its impact. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we included randomized trials presented at late-breaking science sessions of major cardiovascular conferences from 2015 to 2021. The association of trial characteristics with the timing of publication was analyzed. The impact of simultaneous vs nonsimultaneous publication was investigated on the number of 1-year citations and 1-month mentions, and the total citations and mentions at the longest observation follow-up. Results: Of 478 trials included in the analysis, 48.7% were published simultaneously. Simultaneous publications were more likely to be presented in the main conference room (OR, 6.09; 95%CI, 1.34-36.92; P=.029) and were characterized by a shorter review time (OR, 0.95; 95%CI, 0.91-0.96; P<.001). XI Congreso SEFAC: fortaleciendo la atención primaria y reivindicando el valor clínico de la farmacia comunitaria / XI SEFAC Congress: strengthening primary care and vindicating the clinical value of community pharmacy

Para seguir dando soluciones a los grandes retos de presente y futuro de la sanidad y a las necesidades cambiantes de los pacientes, debemos tener una atención primaria reforzada y coordinada, que cuente con el apoyo decidido de la Administración, y que abrace los avances tecnológicos y digitales sin renunciar a la presencialidad. Ahora más que nunca, la farmacia comunitaria debe reivindicar su compromiso con los pacientes y su vocación de fortalecer la atención primaria, apostando por su valor clínico. Son estos precisamente los dos puntos sobre lo que descansa el lema del XI Congreso Nacional de Farmacéuticos Comunitarios y IV Reunión Internacional de Farmacéuticos Comunitarios, que SEFAC celebra del 16 al 18 de mayo en Las Palmas con la colaboración del Colegio Oficial de Farmacéuticos de Las Palmas; tres intensas jornadas científico-profesionales en las que ponentes de primer nivel nacional e internacional impartirán contenidos basados en la evidencia científica, la práctica profesional y la actualidad sanitaria de la farmacia comunitaria.(AU)

Targeted protein degradation in hematologic malignancies: latest updates from the 2023 ASH annual meeting.

Protein degraders, emerging as a novel class of therapeutic agents, have gained widespread attention due to their advantages. They have several advantages over traditional small molecule inhibitors, including high target selectivity and ability to target "undruggable" targets and overcome inhibitor drug resistance. Tremendous research and development efforts and massive investment have resulted in rapid advancement of protein degrader drug discovery in recent years. Here, we overview the latest clinical and preclinical updates on protein degraders presented at the 2023 ASH Annual Meeting.

Creativity, Connection, and Community: Reimagining the Radiology Society Meeting.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: With the shifting needs of radiologists due to escalating healthcare demands, the impetus for an increased focus on wellness and the benefits of the humanities in medicine inspired a novel approach to curricular planning of the 2023 Association of University Radiologists (AUR) annual meeting. In this manuscript, we describe the creative process behind planning and executing this innovative meeting format. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Reimagining the annual meeting was a collaborative effort centered around the development of an innovative Arts and Wellness Program, with the goal of integrating opportunities for artistic expression and experiential wellness throughout the meeting. RESULTS: Of the 1313 meeting attendees, 423 (32.2%) completed the annual meeting evaluation, of which 244 were in-person and 61 attended virtually. 178 of 423 respondents (42.1%) participated in the arts and wellness programming. 160 of 203 respondents (78.9%) reported that the arts and wellness programming enhanced the overall meeting experience. 164 of 197 respondents (83.2%) gained greater appreciation for the talents of radiology colleagues. 97 of 195 respondents (49.7%) stated that the programming gave them ideas as to how to cope effectively with stress. CONCLUSION: The incorporation of art, music, and other wellness activities into a national radiology meeting was well-received by meeting attendees. For many radiologists who participated in the various musical and artistic offerings at the AUR 2023 meeting, sharing artistic talents with the radiology community and colleagues represented the most fundamental way to be fully seen, express authenticity, and connect with others.

II Congreso Nacional de Pediatría. La lucha contra la mortalidad infantil / II National Congress of Paediatrics: The fight against child mortality

En el presente trabajo se presenta una aproximación a los contenidos de las ponencias del IICongreso Nacional de Pediatría, celebrado en San Sebastián en 1923, con ocasión del centenario del mismo. Se destaca como hilo conductor de las mismas el problema de la mortalidad infantil, que en aquellos años era muy elevada en España y era una preocupación de políticos, de intelectuales y de la clase médica. Se constata que alguna de las propuestas y preocupaciones de los pediatras que asistieron a dicho congreso siguen vigentes hoy en día.(AU)

In this work, we present an overview of the contents of the communications presented at the Second National Congress of Paediatrics, held in San Sebastian in 1923, on the occasion of the 100th year anniversary. The problem of infant mortality stands out as a common thread, which in those years was very high in Spain and was a concern of politicians, intellectuals and the medical profession. It is worth noting that some of the proposals and concerns of the paediatricians who attended that congress continue to be relevant today.(AU)

CQCT: Convenção-Quadro para o Controle do Tabaco da OMS

A Convenção-Quadro para o Controle do Tabaco (CQCT) é o primeiro tratado internacional de saúde pública, desenvolvido sob os auspícios da Organização Mundial da Saúde entre 1999 e 2003, após audiências públicas e seis reuniões de negociações envolvendo os 192 países membros da OMS. O tratado entrou em vigor em fevereiro de 2005 e o Brasil foi um dos líderes em seu processo de desenvolvimento. Seu objetivo é “proteger as gerações presentes e futuras das devastadoras consequências sanitárias, sociais, ambientais e econômicas geradas pelo consumo e pela exposição à fumaça do tabaco”. Considerada um marco histórico para a saúde pública global, a Convenção-Quadro traz, em seu texto, medidas para reduzir a epidemia do tabagismo em proporções mundiais, abordando temas como propaganda, publicidade e patrocínio, advertências, marketing, tabagismo passivo, tratamento de fumantes, comércio ilegal e impostos, etc.

Beyond barriers, towards diversity: how hybrid student conferences can drive accessibility.

The third International Student Symposium on Animal Behaviour and Cognition (ISSABC) aimed to address barriers for early career researchers, hosting a conference both in-person and online at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). The conference, attended by 101 in-person and 79 virtual participants from 24 countries, featured 81 presentations, 29 posters, five plenary talks, three workshops, and a career development round-table discussion. A user-friendly website and digital platforms facilitated communication and real-time discussions between in-person and online participants. Transparent fund management, support from sponsors and societies, and sustainable practices ensured financial accountability and minimised environmental impact. The conference emphasised sustainability measures, including eco-friendly catering and local reusable mugs. Future organisers of similar events are encouraged to prioritise local representation, plan contingencies, select plenary speakers rigorously, and employ effective marketing. With this meeting review, we highlight how hybrid conferences like the third ISSABC, through innovative approaches and sustainable practices, enhance accessibility, inclusivity, and empower the next generation of scientists.

Report of the European Medicines Agency Conference on RNA-Based Medicines.

RNA-based medicines have potential to treat a large variety of diseases, and research in the field is very dynamic. Proactively, The European Medicines Agency (EMA) organized a virtual conference on February 2, 2023 to promote the development of RNA-based medicines. The initiative addresses the goal of the EMA Regulatory Science Strategy to 2025 to "catalyse the integration of science and technology in medicines development." The conference focused on RNA technologies (excluding RNA vaccines) and involved different stakeholders, including representatives from academia, industry, regulatory authorities, and patient organizations. The conference comprised presentations and discussion sessions conducted by panels of subject matter experts. In this meeting report, we summarize the presentations and recap the main themes of the panel discussions.

Twenty Years of SPARTAN: From Inception to Impact (SPARTAN 2023 Annual Meeting Proceedings).

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review takes a look at the past, present, and future of SPARTAN, the Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network, an organization of North American healthcare professionals dedicated to advancing research, education, and patient care in spondyloarthritis. RECENT FINDINGS: In 2022, SPARTAN completed the Classification of Axial SpondyloarthritiS Inception Cohort (CLASSIC) study, a collaboration with the Assessment in SpondyloArthritis International Society (ASAS). CLASSIC aimed to validate the 2009 ASAS classification criteria for axial spondyloarthritis. Other ongoing SPARTAN endeavors include the development of US referral recommendations for axial spondyloarthritis, an update of the 2019 ACR/SAA/SPARTAN treatment recommendations for axial spondyloarthritis and multiple educational initiatives. Twenty years after its inception, SPARTAN continues to grow and broaden its impact, guided by the SPARTAN vision of "a world free of spondyloarthritis through leadership in research and education."

Editor's Introduction: Best Papers from the 20th International Conference on Cognitive Modeling.

The International Conference on Cognitive Modelling is dedicated to understanding how the complex processes of the mind can be explained in terms of detailed inner processing. In this issue, we present four representative papers of this field of research from our 20th meeting, ICCM 2022. This meeting was our first hybrid meeting, with a virtual version happening July 11-15, 2022, and an in-person event from July 23-27, 2022, held in Toronto, Canada. The four papers presented here were the top-ranked papers across both the virtual and in-person events. Three of the papers develop novel computational theories about low-level components within the mind and how those components result in high-level phenomena such as motivation, anhedonia, and attention. The final paper demonstrates the use of cognitive modeling to develop novel explanations of a paired associate learning task, and uses those insights to develop and explain human performance in a more complex version of that task.

If you can make it, you can share it - Perspectives on the first DIY-fair at the European congress of medical physics (ECMP, DUBLIN 2022).

The medical physics and engineering community is known for being active in conjuring do-it-yourself (DIY) -solutions to support their clinical and research work. To facilitate the exchange of solutions and ideas, a DIY-fair was held for the first time at the European Congress of Medical Physics (ECMP) in August 2022 in Dublin, Ireland. Altogether 32 contributions were presented, consisting of software, scripts, 3D-printed customized solutions, devices, gadgets and phantoms. All contributions were published in video format on a dedicated YouTube channel, and most were also presented in person at the conference. The fair demonstrated that there is an unmet need for sharing and distributing information on self-created solutions in the medical physics community. The authors propose the creation of a dedicated platform for sharing such content within our community, as well as a continuity of DIY-fairs at future ECMP meetings.

The beauty and challenges of studying cell biology in diverse organisms.
